Flowers

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment, I want to give that world to someone else…” Georgia O’Keeffe.

There is nothing more exciting than spending a day looking at a flower, seeing its beauty unfold, its petals change color, its whole life unfolding right in front of your eyes. There is a lot one can learn in really being with a flower. In these times of threat to our environment from so many sides I often feel an urgency to capture their subtle existence.

These paintings are as much a memento mori, as they are a celebration of all life’s beauty and impermanence.
